Frequently Asked Questions

Can I sugar if I'm using Retin-A, Renova, Tazorac, or Differin?

These topical products can make skin more susceptible to tearing and irritation, so sugaring or waxing the treated areas is not advised. Wait at least three months after discontinuation to sugar.

Can I sugar if I'm using Accutane (Sotret or Claravis)?

Sorry, but no can do. Since these medications can cause severe drying and thinning of the skin, there is a high risk of permanent skin damage if you wax or sugar while taking them. Wait at least six months after discontinuation to sugar.

Is there a minimum age requirement to get a bikini or Brazilian service?

If you're under 18, you must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for your first appointment. Once you and your guardian have signed our waiver and consent forms, you are free to come in unattended as you wish.

Can I sugar during my period?

Yes, absolutely. All we ask is that you wear a tampon and be aware that some women can be more sensitive to pain (and sappy movies) at this time.

What parts of my body can I sugar?

From brows to toes and everything in between! (That is, except scalps and men’s beards.)

How should I prepare for my sugaring appointment?

  • - Avoid shaving for at least 7-10 days.
  • - Avoid tanning for 24 hours (definitely no sugaring on sunburns).
  • - Rinse or take a shower if you have had a rigorous work-out.
  • - Do not exfoliate the area the day before and day of your service. Avoid moisturizing the area to be sugared, especially the legs.

Does sugaring hurt?

Everyone has different hair density and pain threshold, so everyone’s experience of sugaring is different, too. Since sugaring removes hair at the root of the follicle, it’s likely to sting a bit. The good news is, the more consistently you sugar, the less likely it is to hurt. With repeat sugaring, less hair grows back in between services. Hair follicles also weaken, so that whatever hair does grow back can be removed more easily.

Do I have to get naked?

No, you never have to get totally naked. For a Brazilian, you will have to remove all clothing from the waist down (including undies). For other bikini services, you can remove pants and underwear or opt to wear disposable undies that we provide.

What services do you do for guys?

Everything except the scalp and beard.

What exactly is a Brazilian, anyway?

A women’s Brazilian typically removes hair from the bikini area, labia, and anus. For guys, it includes the penis, scrotum, and anus.

What if I want to leave a little hair when I get my Brazilian?

If you’re happy, we’re happy. Let us know the look or shape you desire and we will be happy to deliver.

How often should I sugar?

It really depends on your hair density and rate of hair growth. As a general rule, underarms and legs can be sugared as often as every two weeks. For the bikini area, four weeks is standard. After a few consistent treatments, hair growth will be finer and more sparse. Your sugarist will help you determine the appropriate length of time between appointments for optimal maintenance.

Can I request a specific sugarist?

Of course! Just keep in mind that all of our sugarists receive the same in-house training and are held to the same standards. If it comes down to getting an appointment when it works with your schedule, trust that you’ll get great service no matter which sugarist you see.

Do I need to do anything special after my appointment?

Following a few basic rules will only make your sugaring experience more enjoyable and effective, so we are thrilled that you asked. You’ll get a full list of do’s and don’ts after your treatment.

Can I have sex after being sugared?

This might not be the most popular suggestion, but we recommend waiting at least 24 hours after bikini and Brazilian treatments. When follicles are dilated, sweat and bacteria may irritate freshly sugared spots, which can be quite a bummer.
