It can diminish wrinkles. Tighten up sagging skin. Reduce the appearance of stretch marks and scarring.
Is it magic? Not exactly, but plasma skin tightening has some pretty unbelievable results. Here’s what you should know about this powerful skin treatment.
What is plasma skin tightening?
Plasma skin tightening, also known as plasma fibroblast or plasma skin resurfacing, is a nonsurgical procedure that (as its name suggests), tightens up the skin. It can be used to treat a variety of skin issues, like sagging caused by aging or the sun, acne scars, and damage from skin growths, as well as general face and body contouring!
Here’s how it works: The procedure uses a pen-like device that puts out a high-frequency electric current to make tiny indentations in the skin, stimulating collagen production and firming it up. The heat from the device breaks down the collagen in the dermis and triggers tissue regeneration. As the body heals, new collagen is made, and the tissue contracts. This results in tighter, younger-looking skin.
What results should I expect?
This depends on your skin, but the results we’ve seen are incredible! You may need three or more treatments to achieve the results you’re looking for, and long-term results will vary based on genetics and post-procedure care. Our team of master estheticians can let you know exactly what to expect and how to care for your skin after the treatment.
After each treatment, it takes about seven days for the epidermis to heal in a process called epithelialization. In the meantime, you’ll see some tiny scabs, and you MUST use sunscreen! But the scabs will fall off, and the new skin that emerges will be tighter.
After the healing period, you’ll see an immediate difference, and your skin will continue to improve and firm for over one year after the procedure. Over two-thirds of patients who undergo three treatments of low-energy plasma skin tightening for facial skin report satisfaction with the results three months later.
“Even at just 4 weeks post-treatment I can not only see but *feel* an improvement in the tightness of the skin under my chin. The chin-to-neck line that I’ve always been super-conscious about looks and feels more defined, as well as along the jowl. I can’t believe how quickly this has healed and started to show results.” —Kate K.
What does plasma skin tightening feel like?
It’s not the most comfortable thing ever, so you’ll receive a topical anesthetic before the treatment. The entire procedure takes anywhere from 15 minutes to two hours, depending on the area you’re treating..
What are the side effects of plasma skin tightening?
It will take a week for your skin to heal after the procedure, and in the meantime you may experience redness, peeling, and localized hyperpigmentation (which can be treated with topical medications, though depending on your skin type, it may take several months for it to return its normal color). But this downtime is relatively short compared with other comparable treatments.
“My treatment was quick, nearly painless & effective. My skin is firmer than I’ve seen it in nearly a decade! I always thought I’d have to go under the knife for something like this, which really freaks me out, so I ended up just accepting there was nothing that could be done. But I’m thrilled to have found another way! Would definitely recommend.”
Speaking of—how does plasma skin tightening compare to alternatives?
Compared with over-the-counter creams that claim to tighten skin, plasma skin tightening is FAR more effective. The results aren’t quite as dramatic as surgical treatments like facelifts and laser tightening, but it’s also lower-risk, as you don’t have to go under the knife (and the side effects and downtime are pretty mild). Micro-needling has similar results, though we’ve seen that plasma skin tightening is more effective, with fewer sessions needed.
Is plasma skin tightening safe?
For most people, yes! Plasma skin tightening is appropriate for all skin types and skin tones, and it can be used on any part of the body where you have sagging skin, loss of elasticity, mild scarring, fine lines, or wrinkles.
The procedure is NOT recommended if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have open sores, diabetes or autoimmune disease, excess scarring, or cosmetic procedures in that area. If you have any questions or concerns, just ask!
